Mode: Online

Step 1: The following case was shared with the students in advance.

Imagine you are at the voting booth. Based on the information and discussions, choose the candidate you believe will do the best job for Bharatpur.

Whom would you vote for?

  • Mr. Arjun Verma

  • Ms. Naina Sharma

  • Mr. Rajesh Patel

Step 2: Flipped Classroom

The case study was shared with the students in advance. They had to read before attending this class. They were expected to choose whom they would vote for and also write down the rationale behind their choice.

Step 3: Share

The students then presented their analysis with everyone orally.

Step 4: Analysis

After everyone presented their analysis, the instructor facilitated a discussion around a more structured approach for arriving at a decision for choosing a candidate.

  1. Parameters were decided to analyse each promise.

  2. The parameters were as follows: Short term or Long term Impact - Will the promise have a short term effect or a long one? Impact - Is the promise going to impact a large number of people or a small number of people? Previous experience - Does the candidate have previous experience in the promised deliverables? Accessibility - Is the candidate himself easily accessible?

  3. Each promise was assessed on each of the above parameters and assigned points out of 10. The idea was to make students analyse and assign points they deem appropriate. The table at the end looked like this:

Step 5: Information transfer

The students were then made to summarize their analysis and transfer information from the table onto their notebook.

Step 6: Checking and feedback

The students were provided feedbacks for their submitted summaries.

Expected outcomes:

The activity will help to boost:

  1. Comprehension

  2. Comparative Analysis

  3. Critical thinking

  4. Summarizing skills

  5. Real world connection

  6. Decision making
